Discover Items for Sale Near You

Marketplace opens with photos of items that people near you have listed for sale. To find something specific, search at the top and filter your results by location, category or price. You can also browse what’s available in a variety of categories such as Household, Electronics and Apparel. Use the built-in location tool to adjust the region you’re looking in, or switch to a different city altogether.

When you find something interesting, tap on the image to see more details from the seller, including a product description, the name and profile photo of the seller, and their general location. You can also save the item to find it later.

Decided that you want it? Send the seller a direct message from Marketplace to tell them you’re interested and make an offer. From that point on, you and the seller can work out the details in any way you choose. Facebook does not facilitate the payment or delivery of items in Marketplace.

  1. Hi Cindy,
Facebook Marketplace is presently available only on phones. But the desktop version is on the way. Please find the explanation from Facebook below.

Marketplace is currently available to people over 18 in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico on the Facebook app for iPhone (iPhone 5 and more recent models) and Android (mobile devices only). We will continue expanding to additional countries and make Marketplace available on the desktop version of Facebook in the coming months.
    Thanks

      • How do you install the application on an android please? I have a samsung S7 Active… I cannot seem to find the Marketplace Icon anywhere, and on my desktop, I used to be able to search or click on a photo and it would take me to that persons sale item, it now is saying: Sorry, this content isn’t available right now
The link you followed may have expired, or the page may only be visible to an audience you’re not in.
I am so confused, can you help? Thank you!

  2. My phone reset and I lost all info for my Facebook page. I had to create new one. I no longer have the icon in top of page. How do I get it back? I buy and sell daily, and that is my favorite site. It’s frustrating not being able to use. Please help me with this issue. Thank you

    • Tapping on the new shop icon at the bottom of the Facebook app—which will roll out to Facebook users over the next few days—yields a thumbnail grid of items that people near you have posted for sale. You can adjust the parameters of your search, using filters including location and range (say, “San Francisco, 20 miles”), category (household items, electronics, apparel, and more), and price. Facebook says that, similar to how it shows users relevant posts in News Feed, users will see products based on how they interact with buy and sell groups in News Feed, Groups, and through notification and search queries.

  3. The facebook marketplace icon vanished!! I’m seeing a lot of people with the same problem and no reply from Facebook help center at all. Whats going on?! I live in Utah and it was working just fine until last month.

    • Hi Sissa,
We have seen a few instances like this recently. There is a workaround for this, you can try it.

I suppose you have an Android device. If so,
      1) Uninstall facebook app and facebook messenger app from your Android phone.
      2) Go to Settings>General>Language> make sure you have English US or English UK enabled and not any other.
      3) Reboot your phone and reinstall facebook app and messenger app.

Let us know if it worked for you.

I have new iphone X and i have been trying to get the marketplace icon added on the bottom of the facebook app. My wife has the marketplace icon on her phone and hopefully your help can solve my problem so i can start selling on the marketplace. I am from USA. Thank you!!!!

    • Hello Salvatore,
We have been contacted by many users regarding the same issue of Marketplace icon not appearing. Even the Facebook support group has not come up with an accurate answer or a solution to this problem. You can follow this conversation for more details – https://www.facebook.com/help/community/question/?id=1214404521955315

It looks like Facebook is enabling it for some users only. Could you please try logging on with your wife’s account on your new phone and let us know whether the icon appears or not, so that we can confirm it is a profile setting and not to do anything with phone.

      Regards
      Team Two Decimal

  5. I have NEVER had the icon anywhere on FB. I unistalled it, rebooted phone, and reinstalled FB and still no icon. I am disappointed FB would roll out something so competitive with Craigslist and not have the IT geeks be sure it is going to appear on EVERY phone.

  9. I too have been blocked from marketplace without any idea why i have items posted, have items i wanted to look into purchasing and items still to add for sale. I have clicked on the contact facebook button that comes up when i try to access marketplace more times than i could count. I have also tried to contact support at least 5 times without any response at all this has been going on close to a week I have deleted the app and reinstalled that didn’t help, i have done a factory reset still no access PLEASE help

  10. Why all of a sudden all my posts rejected?
I tried to fill out the appeal form and it would not submit correctly.
I’m only selling authentic handbags that I purchased and no longer want.
    I need an answer ASAP!
I contacted the websites admin people, they told me they have no idea my post looked fine and said facebook is the one who is rejecting my posts.

  11. I posted a sale using my Facebook app for Android. It work’s like it’s supposed to, apart from the fact that when I select my location it keeps changing by it’s self to some random place in Austria. It won’t even change when I try edit the location and select my location from the list that appears after typing in my location. It says it saving the edit, but when I check the item listing I’m trying to sell, still has a completely different location

  12. I have a tower computer and have lost marketplace and don’t understand half of this. I lost contacts and my hair by pulling it out

  13. I was hacked (?) about 2 months or so ago on Facebook. Opened up my page to find about 25 messages in my box. Very unusual. Long story short, someone had signed me up with as many or more local for sale groups across the entire state of Arizona as a member of each! On top of that, they listed me as the owner of a Ford F250 truck that I supposedly had FOR SALE. My message box went berserk that morning! And so did I! One by one I went thru a 4 step process with each group un-joining, changing notifications to off, and requesting that no one add me to other groups. I am getting an average of @ one more notice a day saying I have joined such and such a group, so I continue to delete. Kinda like stomping out a herd of cockroaches. Maddening!!! I then followed a winding road into the privacy settings within Facebook after I tried to get back into MARKETPLACE who had blocked me. In order to get back in, they requested my driver’s license! That made me just a bit nervous along with suspicious. When I originally joined, they never asked for ANY ID other than the fact that I was on Facebook. So I have not pursued that avenue, yet. Should I? Sounds too invasive, let alone scary. After that fiasco, I find out that I have been blocked from all four or so of the local For Sale groups in my immediate area that I have been a member of for 5 yrs. or so! when I try to log onto them, I receive a message that I have been blocked by Marketplace and need “to appeal”. I go into Marketplace and merely click the appeal button as there is no way to put a VOICE to my appeal, and they respond saying my appeal has been received. I have done that about 39 times and never a response. Despite the fact that they continue to send notifications of items for sale daily, which I am not allowed to see or access!

    Any thoughts, suggestions????????

    Thank you

    • We have never come across such a scenario to comment on it. However, I suggest not to provide your driving license for verification purposes as it doesn’t feel genuine on Facebook asking such sensitive documents. The appeal takes several days for them to validate and reach a conclusion, so please wait until that time.
